First is to mention and give major thanks to North Alabama artist Murray Johnson, who graciously accepted my commission for a unique piece of art. She is one of the handful of artist I know, and a dear friend. For more about her, and to see more of her artistry, visit her Facebook page.
As I said on the Zenity Defined page, it comes about via my own melding of four Zen concepts: shoshin, mushin, zanshin, and heijoshin. The logo perfectly represents these four mental attitudes, yet was not planned in that detail. I simply commissioned Johnson for a piece of artwork based on the image brought to her mind from the words 'sanity & serenity'. When she first showed me the piece, I knew it was going to be what I was looking for.
Simply, here is how the colors and the concepts are matched, starting from top left:
purple = shoshin (beginner's mind)yellow = mushin (no mind)blue = zanshin (aware mind)green = heijoshin (peace of mind)
I think it's also very impressive to note the meanings of the colors according to the art of feng shui:
Purple (Yin) - Purple, like blue, is the spiritual end of the color spectrum. It boosts spiritual awareness and is excellent for physical and mental healing. The Feng Shui color of royalty.Yellow (Yang) - Considered as auspicious as red, yellow represents sunbeams, warmth and motion. This color can make you feel cheerful. However, according to a noted color consultant, prolonged exposure to large amounts of intense yellow can cause anxiety.Yellow is the Feng Shui color of communication and health, cheerfulness and friendliness.Blue (Yin) - This color is calm and soothing, this color reflects love as it heals and relaxes. Blue creates a feeling of peace and trust. It is the color of the sea and sky, so it tends to represent adventure and exploration. It is also relaxing and calming.Green (Yin) - Green is refreshing, nurturing, balancing and normalizing as in being surrounded by the lush green of nature. It is the Feng Shui color of harmony, balance, healing and health; physical, emotional and spiritual. The color is good for growth and expansion, and it is peaceful and calming.
Notice the swirl patter, indicating a flowing motion, even while being completely still. Also, much like the yin-yang symbol, each color extends into the space of one next to it, showing how while each is on its own, it is also a part of the whole.
That is exactly how the mind works. It is a single and extremely important aspect of both the physical and mental self. Yet, so very often is either under worked or overworked, both being a terribly out-of-balance state to be in.
It is my hope to help you achieve a mind as clear and vibrant as the logo - still, in harmony, and in your control.
